MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED

green polymer clay
clay tools for cutting and shaping
craft wire
wire tools
silver acrylic paint
silver sparkle paint
chopsticks
gloss sealant
fine tipped paint brushes
strong glue like E6000

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Create the leaf. Condition the polymer clay between your fingers until it’s easy to work with. Roll out the clay about a quarter of an inch thick. Trace a leaf shape onto the clay and trim away the excess. Use your fingers to shape and smooth the leaf shape. You can Google a leaf image if you need a guide for the shape.

Add the wire. Start with a long piece of wire, and cut it into three pieces; short, medium and long. The short piece should be just over an inch long. Bend it into a U shape and stick it into the top of the leaf. The medium wire should be 3 or 4 inches long. Give it a slight bend and push it into the top left and right points of the leaf. To bend the long wire, start with a loop, followed by a swirl like a backward S. Place it on your leaf with the loop in front and the S in back. Then cut the extra wire. Carefully press both wire ends into the clay.

Bake according to the instructions on your clay package. Baking time and temperature will vary by clay brand and the size of your project. Let the piece cool completely before continuing.

Paint the silver details. Paint the veins in the leaf with a metallic silver acrylic paint. Then paint the edges silver. Wait for the silver paint to dry and then paint over the silver with a glitter paint to add sparkle if you like.

Attach a chopstick to create a hair stick, or a pin to create a brooch, with strong glue, like E6000. Let the glue dry completely before continuing.

Brush the entire leaf with a gloss glaze to add shine and seal and protect the paint. Let the gloss glaze dry, and your Lord of the Rings-inspired hair stick is done.
