Make Handmade Disney Cards for the Holidays

I made these handmade Disney cards to send to my Patreon supporters for the holidays. I used a 24-marker set from Color It, provided by the company for me to review. I combined the markers with watercolor paint and some glitter to create a four-card set. If you would like to make these cards you can search for Disney images online or download the pattern below.

MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED

watercolor paper
white card stock
watercolor paint
alcohol markers
optional colorless blender marker
foam tape
a ruler and craft knife
or an optional trim and score board
sturdy board and blue painter’s tape
sheer shimmer spritz
Spectrum Noir wink of stella clear glitter pen
small craft scissors
4 ¾ x 6 envelopes

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS

I used a 24-marker set provided by Color It to create Holiday greeting cards. All in all, I used 9 out of the 24 colors to create this four-card set.

RO4 Tomato Red
P5 Bubble pink
OR6 Mango orange
Y3 Creamy Yellow
GB9 Jade Green
BG1 Aquamarine
TB4 Caribbean Blue
EN6 Pewter
VB5 Lavender

Use a sheet of paper underneath your work, in case the markers bleed through onto your table, or print the pattern on cardstock.

If you want to do this project, you can download the artwork by clicking the button above, or you can search for Disney holiday art online.

One thing that does not come with the Color It marker Set is a colorless blender. I used a Prismacolor colorless blender on the Bubble Pink marker to create polka dots. The alcohol in the blender moves the pigment away from where it is placed, making lighter areas.

The net step is to add some sparkle. Spectrum Noir’s Wink of Stella clear glitter brush pen adds a layer of sparkle.

The next step is to trim out each character. You can do this with as much detail as you want.

Once each figure is trimmed out, it’s time to put them aside and work on the cards they are going to be attached to

Start with 9 by 12 watercolor paper. Each sheet will make four four-and-a-half by six-inch cards. Measure, mark and cut the sheet into quarters.

Before watercolor painting each card, tape them down to a rigid surface with blue painter’s tape. This is to ensure that the paper stays flat and does not warp when it absorbs water and paint.

Donald Duck’s background is four triangles in the primary colors of his character

The next character background is for Mickey Mouse and his stack of Gifts. Four color striped background in the colors of his artwork.

The third character background is for Minnie Mouse; her signature polka dots in some of her signature colors; pink and red.

The fourth and final character background is for Daisy Duck; a two color stripe pattern in aqua and yellow.

Once the watercolor paint is dry, go back with the Spectrum Noir wink of stella clear glitter brush or shimmer spray and added sparkle to each background

While the paint is drying, create four 4×6 greeting cards out of white cardstock.

Trim down each of the watercolors to fit on the front of each card. Making sure that each one fits.

Attach the watercolor paper to the cardstock with glue stick, ordinary white glue, or Tombow Mono Permanent adhesive.

Adhere the characters to the watercolor paper with the Tombow adhesive. Or, to add dimension, use double-sided foam tape instead. This tape will make each character rise up off of its background a bit.
