DIY Beauty and the Beast Rose Pendant
MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED
shrink plastic
a small piece of sandpaper
colored pencils
black sharpie
hole punch
key chain
STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS
Start by downloading and printing out the pattern from craftymcfangirl.com.
Select colored pencils in several shades of blue, purple, pink, and green
Place a sheet of shrink plastic over the pattern and tape down so it does not shift while you are working.
Next, lightly sand the plastic with very fine sandpaper. This will rough up the surface so that it will accept colored pencil.
You may want to find a picture of the Beauty and the Beast enchanted Rose online and refer to it as you color in the image. I used 5 shades of blue on the interior. Moving on to the rose, I used three shades of pink. I brought some of the same pink into the outside border and also added purple there. And finally, I used two shades of green for the stem and leaves.
Once the coloring is done, it is time to trace in the borders. use a black Sharpie or other alcohol based marker to do this. Once you have outlined the border, move the shrink plastic off of the pattern onto a plain white part of the paper. You will now be able to see any lines you missed or any lines that need more ink. You can also bring back the colored pencils to fill in any open areas that you missed.
The next step is to cut out the pendant with scissors. Try not to trim off any of the black outline you just drew on.
Use a regular quarter-inch hole bunch to create a hole in the top center of the circle.
Now it is time to bake your piece. Place it, colored-side-up, on a baking sheet on top of a piece of cardboard, craft paper or silicone baking mat. Do NOT use aluminum foil, wax paper or a bare metal pan. Shrink plastic tends to stick to those things.
Place the shrink plastic in an oven pre-heated to 250 degrees. Watch your piece the entire time it is baking. Do not leave shrink plastic unattended in the oven. If the piece curls up, that is okay. It will flatten out on it’s own. Once the piece has shrunk and flattened, remove it from the oven to cool.
Once the pendant is completely cool it is time to seal the design with Mod Podge Dimensional Magic. Use the tip of the applicator to spread the dimensional magic to the edges of the piece, but don’t let it drip over the sides. Also go to the edge of the hole but don’t let the product drip inside. If you have bubbles in your dimensional magic, it is important to pop them with a paper clip or the point of craft blade before they dry.
The sealant will dry clear in a few hours, but I like to wait longer before adding a jump ring and key chain or necklace chain. To create a key chain, use small pliers or jewelry tools to add a large jump ring and key chain loop or hook. And your Beauty and the beast rose pendant is done. You can turn it into a necklace or a purse charm.
