MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED

black yarn
optional pom-pom maker
small piece of white foam or paper
black marker
small craft scissors
pink, blue and yellow polymer clay
small star or flower clay cutter
wire or eye pins
jewelry making tools

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Make the sugar stars: Use any colors of polymer clay you have on hand, and a flower or star shaped cutter to create three sugar stars. Put a piece of wire or an eye pin through each star and bake according to the instructions on your clay package.

Make the soot sprite: It’s a black pom pom made from yarn. If you don’t have a pom pom maker, you can use a piece of cardboard to wind your yarn.

If you use a Clover pom pom maker: fill in one side of the maker by winding yarn around and around. Then close the left arm and open the right arm and fill it with yarn. Then close the right arm. Hold it closed with one hand while cutting the yarn apart by running your scissors along the groove under the yarn. Once both sides have been cut apart, take a length of yarn and tie it tightly around the middle of the pom pom. Tie a couple of very secure knots. Then open the pom pom maker and shake out your pom pom.  Trim any pieces of yarn that are sticking out too much. But make sure not to cut the two long pieces. We will need those later.

Make the eyes: Heat up your glue gun for the next part. Using a small piece of white craft foam or paper, draw two round eyes for your sprite. Refer to a picture online to see how they should look. Trim out each eye and hot glue them to your pom pom.

Make a sugar star chain: Get the baked and cooled sugar stars. Using wire tools, bend the wire into loops and create a chain out of the stars. Then attach the chain to the soot sprite using the tails of the yarn left over from tying around the middle. Trim off any stray pieces of yarn that stick out too much.
