Be a Big Kahuna with These DIY Pokemon Sun and Moon Charms

Use these Pokemon Sun and Moon key chains when you visit the islands of Alola. This is such a fun and easy shrink plastic craft. You can make key chains like I did, or turn these logos into a necklace, earrings or attach a dust plug and make a decorative charm for your Nintendo 3DS.

MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED

download the pattern
shrink plastic
teal blue and orange sharpie marker
scissors
hole punch
baking pan with cardboard lining

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Download and print out the pattern or do an online search for the Pokemon sun and moon logos. Place a sheet of shrink film on top of the pattern. Use several pieces of tape to secure the shrink film over the pattern so that it does not move while you are drawing the shapes.

Use a teal blue and orange sharpie marker to fill in the logos. This is where you can add other details and personalize your charms any way you want to. I filled in the shapes with solid color, but you could add outlines or other details. Use your creativity.

Sometimes it can be hard to see if your image is completely filled in. If you are not sure, flip the pattern over to the plain white side of the paper and put the shrink film back down. That way you can fill in any areas you may have missed.

Let the marker dry for a few seconds to make sure the ink does not smear. Then it’s time to cut out your charms. Try to hold the shrink plastic without touching the marker if you can. I found that the sun logo easily trimmed into a square shape and the moon logo became a circle. You can trim them into whatever shapes you like.

Use a single hole punch to make holes to hang your charms from.

Line a baking pan with some chipboard or cardboard. And place your charms on top for baking. Bake according to the instructions on your shrink plastic package. I preheated my oven to 300 and the charms only took four minutes to bake. While they are in the oven, the plastic will curl up into a squiggly bowl shape. Don’t open the oven or try to flatten them. Just leave them alone. When the pieces are completely baked, the plastic will flatten out. That is how you’ll know they’re done. Take them out of the oven and let them cool completely.

Once the charms are completely cool, it’s time to connect them to the key chains with a clip.
