How To Make A Free Dobby Sock Keeper

MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED

download the pattern
wooden plaque
three clothes pins
any color acrylic paint. I used brown and purple
optional glitter paint
paint brushes
strong glue like E6000

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Prepare your wood plaque. Sand any rough edges before you paint.

Decide on the positioning of the clothespins first. Make sure they are high on the plaque with only a small amount hanging over the edge at the bottom. Then draw on the Free Dobby slogan with pencil. The font is called Lumos. You can download the pattern at Craftymcfangirl.com here.

Give your plaque a light wash of brown paint. Add a lot of water to the paint so that is it quite thin. You should be able to see your pencil marks through the wash. Use the same brown paint wash for the clothespins. Make sure to cover the entire clothespin with paint. And finally, use the brown wash around the sides of the plaque.

Once the brown wash has dried completely it’s time to add some color. Fill in the letters. Then decorate the plaque however you like. Let the paint dry completely before continuing.

An optional step is to add some sparkle. Add a coat of glitter paint over the letters and edges of the plaque

Once the paint is completely dry, it’s time to glue on the clothespins. Use a generous amount of strong glue, like E6000. Make sure to glue the pins high on the plaque with only a small amount hanging over the edge. That will add strength so they won’t break off when you push on the pins to open and close them over time. Let the glue cure for 24 hours.
